7 Cleaning Hacks for Keeping Your Car Fresh

Posted in   Cleaning tips  on August 28, 2019

Everything you own in your life will need a deep clean every once in a while and although it may not be everyone’s favourite job, we’ve got some useful tips and tricks to help you clean and maintain your car.

1. Clear out and tidy your car

It’s hard to begin deep cleaning your car when you’ve got clutter all over it. Remove any rubbish and items that might be in there, so you can replace anything you need in your car after the clean.

2. Use a makeup brush

Makeup brushes are the perfect size and design to remove the dust from your vents. Air vents can get incredibly dusty in a short amount of time, so gently brush the fluffy bristles over the slats to dislodge the dust. We suggest doing this first so you can remove the dust from the surfaces it lands on with a hoover later on.

3. Hoover up

Remove the floor mats and hoover the footwells and seats. The hose accessory will help you reach the crumbs and dust in the crevices. If you’re worried about any loose change or small pieces of jewellery being stuck down there, then place a pair of tights over the hose end, as this will catch any larger items that you want to keep. If you have pets in your car regularly, we recommend using a bottle of water spray and a squeegee, spray a little water onto the seats and work the pet hairs away with the squeegee.

4. Polish your dashboard and other surfaces.

There are a variety of products you can use to scrub your dashboard and surfaces free of dirt, but keeping it simple will ensure you get the best results! Simply use a microfiber cloth and a mixture of mild soap with water to wipe down the surfaces – you may need to use a soft toothbrush to get rid of extra stubborn dirt. Dry it all off with a paper towel, and to add back some shine to your dashboard, use a tiny bit of olive oil on a cloth and rub this into the surface. This will not only leave your dashboard looking brand new, but will create a fresh scent in your car.

5. Clean your floor mats

Floor mats take the brunt of the wear, often left covered in dirt, crumbs, and oil. It’s time to give your floor mats a bit of TLC, with a few sprays of stain remover. Let it soak into the fibers for a few seconds before throwing them into the washing machine on a thorough cycle, preferably with fabric softener added to give them a fresh scent.

6. Clean your windows

To increase your overall visibility, clean the interior of your windows with some window cleaner and a cloth to get rid of grimy fingerprints, dust, and smears . Do this after you clean to dashboard, as cleaning the dashboard will disturb the dust and will transfer dust onto the windows.

7. Add an air freshener

Once you’ve added everything you need back into your car, add an air freshener to elongate that fresh and clean feeling! You can either buy one from a store or make one yourself by filling a small mason jar with baking soda and a few drops of your favourite smelling essential oils. Replace the lid with some breathable fabric, such as a piece of cheese cloth, and place in your cup holder in or a door storage compartment.

That’s it! Now you’ve got a sparkly clean interior that you’ll be proud of! All you need to do now is give the exterior a thorough wash as usual and your car will be restored.
